Minnesota Mom's Racist Slur Costs Her Over $500K: Autism Advocacy Turned Toxic
A woman from Minnesota, whose actions were captured in a widely shared video where she used the N-word towards an autistic child, is now portraying herself as the aggrieved party. Following the incident, she claimed that her private details had been exposed and managed to raise over $500,000 through an online fundraising campaign.
Shiloh Hendrix came forward as the mother who was captured on video this week using an offensive slur against a 5-year-old boy whom she reportedly saw going through her bag at a playground in Rochester, located roughly 90 minutes southwest of Minneapolis.
In the video, Hendrix directs her anger and expletives towards the Black man who had confronted her and recorded the event.

When Sharmake Omar questioned Hendrix about whether she had uttered the offensive remark towards the child, Hendrix admitted, "Yes," according to the video footage.
"She announced, 'He claimed my son's belongings,'" he said.
Omar, 30, confronted the blond woman who had a child resting on her hip and questioned whether "searching" through her possessions justified using a racial epithet towards a kid.
“If that’s how he plans to behave,” she stated, then repeated the offensive term multiple times for Omar as he continued recording.

A multitude of internet users criticized Hendrix for employing hate speech, particularly when targeting a minor.
The boy is autistic, Omar told NBC News, adding his parents, who are from Somalia, were supervising their three other children on the playground at the time of the incident.
“That little boy … was visibly upset by the incident,” Omar, who also has Somalian heritage but is not related to the boy, told the outlet.
During the confrontation, Hendrix allegedly told him he and his wife shouldn’t have more children because they are a drain on the welfare system.
Hendrix has since proclaimed herself victim of an attack — asserting online that the viral video has put her family in jeopardy.

I recently had a child take something from my 18-month-old son's diaper bag at a park," the woman, who identified herself as Hendrix, shared in a crowdsourced post. "I immediately confronted the kid about his actions.
“A different individual, whom we later discovered had previous interactions with law enforcement, started recording me and trailing me to my vehicle. This person subsequently uploaded those videos online, causing significant distress for both my family and me,” she explained, referencing Omar.
My Social Security Number was compromised. My home address and telephone number were shared publicly without my consent. Now, my relatives are facing harassment. Our oldest child might not return to their educational institution. Even details about my workout locations have become known.
Hendrix asserts that she feels compelled to move with her two children due to threatening messages received online, and she has requested $1 million to facilitate this relocation.
By early Saturday, over $525,000 had been collected.

Although Hendrix asserted in the statement that Omar had previously encountered issues with law enforcement, state court documents indicate that she also has several convictions, such as DUI, Disorderly Conduct, and fighting.
The Rochester Police Department stated on Friday that they were looking into the situation following numerous reports related to the video.
This isn't about racism; instead, it's a public reckoning over Carmelo Anthony being paid $500K to harm a white child without consequence. Similarly, Shiloh collecting funds for using a slur merely serves as a reflection of how our society favors particular stories, suppresses others, and labels this dynamic as fairness. pic.twitter.com/t9Iy0MVABJ

According to Omar, the child's parents have shown their backing for pursuing legal action.
Neither Omar nor Hendrix was readily available for comment from The Post at the time.
On Friday, the Minnesota Democrats praised Omar for confronting Hendrix despite her ongoing hatred.
“We condemn these vile acts of racism in the strongest way possible. This disgusting rhetoric has no place in our community, and we’re grateful that a bystander took action and prevented further escalation by the perpetrator,” the group said in a statement.
Some online commenters claimed Hendrix’s fundraising from the incident was a “public reckoning” after the family of Texas teen Karmelo Anthony, who is black, raised more than $500,000 following his arrest for allegedly fatally stabbing a white teen.
Anthony has claimed self-defense.
